In 2021, Nike SB collaborated with Minneapolis-based Familia Skateshop to create the SB Dunk Low “First Avenue,” inspired by the iconic First Avenue music venue. Familia, owned by pro skateboarder Steve Nesser, has been a staple in the Twin Cities since the early 2000s, even opening a skatepark in 2012.
First Avenue, a legendary venue since 1970, has hosted artists like Prince, who popularized the “Minneapolis Sound.” The Dunk Low features a black upper with purple accents, brick-like textures, perforated stars symbolizing the 500 performers, and 3M reflective materials. Unique details include insoles depicting the venue’s checkered floor and a ticket from its first concert on April 3, 1970. Designed by Todd Batrud, the special box edition includes backstage VIP passes, reminiscent of concert experiences.
