The Naked Truth about Nike SB Dunks

Nike unveiled the Nike SB line almost 12 years ago (way back in 2002) when the Skateboarding trend was on the rise. For years in the US, the skateboarding culture was very hyped and skateboarding shoes even clothing were worn more as casual wear than by the actual skateboarders. Nike saw this market potential so they decided to launch the Nike Skateboarding line.

Nike started with the release of Nike Dunks SB. These are actually dunks with several performance changes including a good cushioning system, Zoom Air insoles, extra padding to the tongue, double/triple stitching.

A month ago, Diamond Supply Co. founder Nick Tershay (aka Nicky Diamonds) confirmed that the Nike SB Dunks  X Diamond Supply Co. 'Tiffany' 2018 is coming this year. Shortly thereafter, he teased us with a previously black SB Dunk Low. Now, it seems that there could be even more in the works.

Tershay's teased us with a white Nike SB Dunk Low that has overlays that can be found on the "Tiffany" Dunks. Unique to this version is a Velcro Swoosh, which reveals a "Tiffany" blue shade underneath. It also comes with metal Diamond-branded aglets and what appears to be an icy translucent sole.

There had been rumors also that a Yellow version will also be released in Complexcon, followed by the black and white versions a few days later.  Complexcon is a recurring music festival that will be held in Long Beach, California, USA, on November 3-4, 2018. If the rumors are to be believed, will be seeing the Nike SB Dunks  X Diamond Supply Co. 'Tiffany' 2018 Black and White versions on the 2nd or 3rd week of November, 2018.

UPDATE:

Check out the complete Nike SB X Diamond 2018 Pack! And yes, there will be a Yellow SB X Diamond version. And just like the white and black versions that have already been revealed, it comes with the same removable silver Swoosh with an aqua blue underlayer will be part of the total package. A release date has yet to be revealed for this version, but the GR (black version) is said to be released on November 10, 2018. Keep it locked for updates as we have them, and stay tuned for official drop dates for all these three colors.

SkateShoesPH has seen each release and watched Dunks develop. One constant that we've noticed from the very beginning has been the inclusion of the Dunk in each season. These Dunks were given an SB once over as it lent itself to skateboarding off the bat. It has caused quite a stir on a number of occasions, and whenever a big release is on the cards we felt it apt to refresh your memories with our own list of our favourite Dunks.

The Nike SB Futura was one of our favorites. It's part of the silver box releases that sold like hotcakes. It's considered as one of best SBs ever released by the many as the colorway and choice materials were superb.

Designed by Reese Forbes, this Nike SB Hunter proved popular. This was yet another design to make the most of materials. It features a camouflaged toe, heel detailing, burlap uppers, an orange sole and Swoosh.

The Melvins dunk high is a dope shoe that features a white canvas with a blood stain prints and a black sole and Swoosh. There's a Chinese character for blood on one side of the heel while the Melvins logo appears embroidered on the other side.

The De La Soul Dunk High was the high top which drew a huge crowd on its release. It's yet another shoe which benefited from making use of the most materials to hand with a green cement print on the toe and around the laces. Most intriguing on this shoe was the use of the 3 Feet High and Rising album artwork on the heel in hologram form.

This Nike SB Stussy was released as part of the team managers pack. Though, overshadowed by the Diamond release which was part of the same pack, it's still considered as one of the best dunk lows ever released. Designed by Stussy team manager Robbie Jeffers, it features, neapolitan ice cream flavours strawberry, chocolate and vanilla inspired the colourway, finished off with a cherry on top or should I say on the tongue tag :).

The Simpsons "Homer" Dunk were based on the colors of our favorite nuclear power plant employee "Homer Simpson" which also sold out instantly.

Ten years ago, Nike SB released the Lucky and Unlucky Dunk High's, but the unlucky dunk  garnered the most interest. These shoes had number 13 in place of the 7 on the Lucky's and a combination of black suede and leather with gold detailing. Though considered as unlucky, these shoes sold out to queues, so I must say that it's unaffected by superstition.

Futura has collaborated with with U.N.K.L.E to create the U.N.K.L.E Dunkle. It's a black and pink leather Dunk High that has Futura's artwork all over the toe, heel and side panels. It also has a Mowax logo on the insole. These shoes sold out in less than an hour.

The Tiffany Dunk came out in 2005 as part of the team manager pack, along with the Stussy. Designed by Nick Tershay from Diamond, it features a Tiffany aqua blue upper, Diamond logo on the tongue, a chrome Nike Swoosh and black crocodile print leather on the toe, heel and lacing panel. The hype on this shoe lives on still, and you'd still be able to cop your pair for a reseller's/rape price.

Our number one SB is the What The Dunk. It took recognizable features from many of the most popular SB Dunk releases. Each shoe was a mash up of the the pigeons, the lucky/unlucky highs, the Jedi's, the Denims, Cali's, the the Hufs and the list goes on. It's a super limited shoe that's very hard to find these days.

We hope you enjoyed reading this article and let us know your top 10 dunk sbs in the comments section!

Created in 2002, the Nike SB Dunk was adopted from the court by skateboarders and sneakerheads to become an icon of the streets. An early catalyst to evolving sneaker culture as we know it today, the Nike Dunk has enjoyed a storied legacy of reinvention through numerous iterations and creative collaborations proving to be an integral part of a culture obsessed with sneakers. To celebrate this legacy, Nike SB: The Dunk Book is the first book to present the historical archive of one of the most important shoes ever created. Worn by an ever-growing list of elite riders at competitions all over the world, Nike Dunks are prized as much for their funky, one-of-a-kind designs as well as their high performance.

Nike SB: The Dunk Book is filled with stunning images that tell the visual story of Nike SB's most iconic styles. Including Danny Supas, Staple Pigeon Dunks, De La Soul Highs, Paris Dunks, U.N.K.L.Es, Lobsters, and Supreme Dunk SBs, this volume flaunts the signature color-ways and craftsmanship that Nike SBs are known for.

Through enlightening anecdotes by the likes of Futura and Paul Rodriguez, readers get intimate accounts of how their favorite sneakers came to be. Also featured are archival images of Nike SB's most recognizable skaters rocking the iconic sneakers, including Eric Koston, Richard Mulder, Grant Taylor, Omar Salazar, Reese Forbes, Brian Anderson, Theotis Beasley, and Daniel Shimizu. $55.

For so many years,  the Dunk Lows have been at the forefront of the skate and street culture, offering a lower cut to the ever popular Dunk High model. The colorways hold well, even when used for its intended purpose: skating.

Honestly, I used to hate Nike sb's. but when a friend bought some dunks, I was like "dude, those are sick, I need to get a pair."I went to We Legendary and bought a pair of dunk lows.

To start off, If you are already decided to get some Dunk Lows for skateboarding be sure to get the right size. My recommendation is to buy them "TTS" true to size. These shoes will stretch after several wears, especially the suedes and leathers because the cushion in the heel will change its original dimensions when put under pressure.

Don't buy dunks half a size too big as the capability of the shoe to hold your feet tightly in the right position will be lost - this can lead to ankle twists or other injuries. The break-in time for the Dunk lows are almost non-existing, especially for the suede and the leather models, but if the still feel a little stiff after a couple of wears, just bend the sole a few times to increase its flexibility.

Price

The dunk lows come in many colorways, and depending on the colorway, the price will vary. Retail for Nike sb dunk lows is about 4,000php. But Nike SB releases only a certain amount of models, which is where supply and demand come into effect. Originally, this shoe had a low retail price. However, once the demand began to skyrocket, and retail stores, as well as resellers, decided to increase in sales.

Models

With so many Dunk Lows floating about, both past and present iterations, often times we get lost in the shuffle. The hype for these skate shoes has impacted the sneaker game and so many colorways, and models have already been released in multiple colorways and been retroed. Designed for skateboarding, these SB Dunks feature the Zoom Air insoles with thicker padding in areas around the ankle and tongue. The SB Dunk is now a highly popular sneaker and the demand for it increases as sneaker connoisseurs will do anything to get a pair.

Looks

Depending on the colorway that you are going to but, the looks will be different. Overall these skate shoes look very good but come colorways can be very ugly. But personally I like most of them. If you would like to look at all of the dunk colorways ever released, click on this link.

Comfort

These shoes are extremely comfortable! In the heel, they have Zoom air insoles, which acts as an airbag that’s fairly squishy. It also has padded sides, a stuffed tongue (that isn’t too stuffed), and the whole shoe flexes very nicely.

Fit

Dunk Lows fit true to size but is narrow. So, if you have wide feet like me, you might want to order a half size up.

Performance

Performance wise, it’s A+. This shoe has insane lick – your board sticks and stays with the shoe. You don’t need extra effort to flick your board though flip tricks may get hard after a while since its outsoles are fairly weak, and wear down pretty fast.

It has an amazing boardfeel just as good as a vulc shoe. You would be able to feel the concave, the start on the nose and tail, as well as bolts. The soles have deep threads that don’t wear down too much. However, the materials are not too grippy, but not that horrible. Grip wise, it’s decent but could have been much better. It loses most of its grip when the outsole wears down. Durability wise it’s superb. The only problem here is that when the outsole wears down, the shoe will begin to rip faster. If the shoe had a stronger outsole, then these would last longer. The shoes have no lace protection but it’s ok as long as you tie the laces tightly – to keep it away of the grip tape. One thing I like about this shoe is that it takes impact very well – thanks to the zoom air insoles.

Overall

For me, these shoes are amazing. They are comfy, have good boardfeel, and flick nice. The Dunk low is kind of basic that has a universal shape that most skateboarders will like. It is grippy and has a balanced amount of board feel and is quite durable. The only problem here is outsoles as they wear down easily. When the outsole wears down, the toecap will start to rip, then the swoosh, which looks kind of weird. These Dunk Lows may not sound good on this review to some people, but they are absolutely amazing skate shoes, and I would recommend them to anyone!

How to Fix Cracking Leather on Nike SB Dunks Using Eidechse Leather Crack Filler (129PHP on Lazada/Shopee)

Can you fix cracked leather on your Nike SB dunks or your fave skate shoes? It’s one of the most common questions we, get asked. The answer depends on the type of leather damage – but in any case simple restoration will work wonders. So, whether you have cracked leather in need of repair or simply wish to guard against future damage, follow Skate Shoes PH's pointers for keeping your hide looking fresher for longer.

You'll need the following:

Step 1: Clean and Dry

Using shoe cleaner like Clyde then let the leather to dry completely

Step 2: Apply Eidechse Leather Crack Filler

Beloved by SB and Jordanheads alike, Nike SB‘s “J-Pack” first brought Air Jordan-style color blocking onto Swoosh Brand skate shoes all the way back in 2005’s “Pink Box” era. Now, it is coming back to the SB Dunk Low again, thanks to this new black and green makeup. Part of the reason “J-Pack” releases remain so popular is that they do more with less than many other SB Dunks, and that ethos is continued here in this Nike SB Dunk Low Pro J-Pack Dark Green. It comes with a simple black nubuck base that is mixed with rich dark green accents on the toe box, midfoot Swoosh, tongue, and rear collar. Just like other dunks, the Zoom Air unit is placed under the insole’s heel for enhanced comfort/board feel, and down below the look is completed by a contrasting white midsole and green outsole.

The Nike SB Dunk Low Pro J-Pack Dark Green will roll out gradually over the summer and are available now at select stockists like Premier for $90 USD.

I am not sure why these Hey Dude shoes are trending - they look trash IMO. Anyway, The December 15 release of the Concepts x Nike SB Lobster Dunks will surely meet large crowd of eager sneakerheads and obvious resellers.

The overall design is somewhat the same as the original, they just have different color schemes. This year, we'll get the Purple Lobster, Green Lobster, and the yet-to-be-announced Orange Lobster, but is set to be an-in store only release — much like Diamond Supply Co recently did with their three-pack of SBs in November.

I have not seen these shoes in person yet, but hopefully the uppers are made of a super buttery leather and I won’t be disappointed with its overall quality and construction.
Nike SB Green Lobster

Nike SB Purple Lobster

Nike SB Orange Lobster (LOL, I just made this up :))

Concepts has a lot of dope collabs out there, and the 2018 Lobsters Collection is one of them! If you are a fan of SB’s and the original lobster dunks, you'd definitely have to own a pair of these. A piece of advice – take the bands off and leave them off, otherwise they can mark the shoes when in storage and will mess your shoes up if you walk in them.

By the way, the Purple lobster is now posted as "coming soon" @Tactics. You might want to bookmark this link, they are priced at $99.95.

"Orange Lobster SB Dunk Low is just a Rumor"

UPDATE: December 14, 2018

The "Green Lobster" Concepts x Nike SB Dunk Low received a surprise drop this morning at the Shanghai release of the collaboration. Concepts creative director Deon Point also shared an on-foot look at the limited pair complete with a vibrant set of pink laces.

Miss out on the first pair of Nike SB Coral Snake (AKA the Flesheater) seven years ago? Well, don't fret as NIKEiD will be offering the launch of snakeskin material option on Nike Dunks. You'd be able to build an extremely close match to the Black and Red accented Coral Snake Dunks. Short of the Nike branding and correct tone of red though, yet they’re visibly close to the original. Better start brainstorming your dream colorways and look for the option to launch on April 15, 2014 at Nike Store. $135.

carpet company dunk website

The Nike SB Carpet Company is yet another collab between Nike and carpet company skate shop. We have featured this carpet company sb a few days ago and today we found out that this skate shoe looks better distressed - revealing a yellow layer underneath its white leather and “Royal Pulse” fabric upper.

Honestly, I am not into highs, and I think this version would look better in low-tops. Anyway, it feels also that Nike SB is running all their dunk motifs into the ground - as this ain't the first tearaway they've done. I don't like the pre-aged midsoles also. In fact, I am using Salon care 40s to whiten all my sb dunks' yellow midsoles.

Carpet Company Nike SB Release Date

Carpet Company Skate brand released the carpet company nike dunks sb over the weekend. However, a wider release is slated for February 26, which will land on Nike’s website. Expect to see carpet company nike sb raffles, right after the release too.

Anyone notice the snake skin run that the Nike SB Dunk Low has been on as of late? It started when the “Snake Eyes” showed up. We've also heard that these materials will be available for NikeiD dunks this month. What's new in dunk sb these days is the combination of nylon and synthetic suede which utilizes black, new slate, and reflective silver. Want another look? Hit the jump with us to get just that and then purchase these Dunks for yourself from CCS. $85.
