In 1996, Osiris, a skateboard brand, was founded in California by Swedish skater Tony Magnusson, Brian Reid, Tony Chen and Doug Weston.
The OG D3 came into existence, when Dave Mayhew aka the technician, needed his 3rd Osiris shoe.
It's called D3 since it's Dave's 3rd skate shoes from Osiris.

In 1999, the OG Osiris D3 was released for $149.95, but it's not actually a successful launch - just lukewarm sales.
