Tony Hawk showed that he’s still got it, posting images Sunday of him catching air on his skateboard in and around Detroit.

Hawk, also poked fun at himself in his Twitter post:

“Thanks to @CameraJesus for capturing me in motion today in and around Detroit,” he wrote Sunday evening. “I can’t begin to explain how frightening handrails are for me these days, considering my AARP status and long dormant street skills.”

Tony has been a longtime proponent of skate parks. In fact, he helped to design the now-closed "Wayfinding," a temporary art installation and skatepark in downtown Detroit. His foundation last summer awarded more than $1.5 million to build free, public skate parks in low-income areas throughout the U.S. Riverside Park was one of the Summer 2018 Built To Play Skatepark Grant recipients.

Over the years Osiris Shoes has contributed some of the bulkiest shoe designs to skate shoe history. Osiris hasn’t slowed down one bit either! Check out their latest colorway for the Techniq feature a black and white combo colorway.  It's a bulky and a technical low-top skate shoe that is made with high-quality materials to offer improved board feel and impact resistance. The Osiris Shoes Techniq is indeed a progressive and sophisticated athletic footwear that is completely different from any other. $60.

Here's some of the reasons why skate boarding is underrated here in the Philippines.

Skateparks

Aside from the poor quality of our roads here, we don't have that much skate parks. This is the reason why skaters skate in public places, which annoys most people.

Well, we can't blame these kids, because there are only a few skate parks here in the Philippines. Why? Simply because our government does not support skateboarding that much.

Although Mayor Erap Estrada has made two public parks (Vitas and MSP), the majority of the public officials here would prefer to create more basketball courts.

Skating Gear

This is what's been bugging me really. Although you can get decks at a reasonable price 1000 pesos at some local skateshops, shoes are the WORST part about it.

It's difficult to buy quality skate shoes here without paying above 2000 php ($50). Sure, you can buy cheap skate shoes but most of them are made of canvas that don't have the quality support and will wear out really fast. Decent ones (that have good material and support) like Globe, Emerica G6s, Etnies, Nike SBs, Converse Cons and éS are expensive. Skate gear is tough to bargain for in the Philippines.

Culture

Some skaters here aren't that nice to skate with. This is just my opinion. I hear them say "hugots" and "boom panes" being repeated over and over which for me is kind of annoying. It's challenging to find those who are nice, but once you do, it will be much more fun and beneficial towards continuing skate boarding.

Discrimination

Skateboarders here are kind of "taboo". Being labeled as a skateboarder has a special type of discrimination. "Dugyot" or Dirty looking - well, we can't blame these people for seeing us that way because of the tropical weather we have and honestly, there are some skaters that are ill - mannered. These maybe the reasons why majority of the Filipinos find it hard to understand the spirit of skateboarding.

What we can do?

Well, it has to be a collaborative effort. We can't just whine and expect our government to provide as skate parks. We got to show them what our passion is all about, the right way, and for sure they will listen.

As for us, we are raising funds to buy skate shoes, skateboards, ramps, and equipment for skateboarding.

Right now, there are some kids that don't have skateboards, shoes, or a place to go to ride their skateboards.  With your help, we can make a safe and fun place for our youth to skate.

Skate Shoes PH needs your help! Least you can do is to spread the word!

  • Learn how to ride it and work on your balance, at this point you should also learn the opposite stance, it will make things much easier to learn once you get into some of the more technical tricks.
  • Decide what moves you want to/need to learn and imagine how to make them work together, what makes them different and what makes them similar. It gives you a basic insight into the mechanics. So naturally, you should start with an ollie.
  • At this point, figure out the principles behind it. How does it work? Where and why are your feet supposed to do this and not that.
  • When you finally decide to give it a shot, don't think about what you need to do in a "step" fashion. Your both legs have to work as one, kinda like a solid sidekick - you have to be fully aware of both of your legs and your hips at the same time to create one singular motion. Otherwise, it will always "almost" work.
  • Once you can sort of do it, now it's the time to break it up into pieces and master every component. At some point, it will become almost like a form of "leg memory". Now look for a trick that is preferably a direct extension or variation of your previously learnt trick. After you learn how to ollie, you can either go for nollie, to balance your stances. If not, give kickflip a shot. Let's say you already know how to do a kickflip - try a heelflip or a shove it. Now that you know how to do a kickflip and a shove it - see what happens when you combine them both.
  • Great. Now you're addicted. Good luck and wear a helmet, seriously.

In one sentence - practice, be patient because it takes time, understand what you're doing and why you're doing what you're doing, also, I can't stress it enough - focus.

Offered at around $80 USD per pair, this shoe is on the higher end of the skate shoe price spectrum, but then again, it's considerably worth the price given its durability and comfort. It looks like an instant classic. That's why when I find deals online, I took advantage of it like this one from Adidas.

The Adidas Busenitz Core Black / Solid Grey will now cost you only $40. Cool eh? I already bought mine as it's one of my favorite shoes for skate boarding. This shoe elevates the heel placing me more on the balls of my feet. Also, it feels like it's hugging your foot and there is some good padding on the tongue. The suede toe covering is great for flicking and the stitching helps hold its form. The only drawback is that the tongue is not held in place by lateral elastic bands and I frequently have to adjust the tongue every so often while skating. All and all, I love this shoe, and it is definitely good for skating! $40.

"Haters are gonna hate, posers are gonna pose, skaters are gonna skate ... No matter how ya look at it, nothing will change about skateboarding except give it opportunities to grow 👊🏼 I'm excited about this and I'm proud that it's come this far, super stoked for those who get to qualify for this event in Tokyo, Japan 2020" - Steve Caballero

Tampa Pro 2015 has come and gone and has proven that it is still the benchmark skate contest. The level of competition this year was the highest it has ever been and a very close finals had everyone on the edge of their seat. In the qualifying rounds, it really looked like it would be between Shane O'Neill and Ishod Wair, but come Sunday Nyjah Huston and Luan Oliveira were clearly battling it out for the title.

In the end, Luan Oliveira took the title with an unbelievable one-minute run that was followed up by another solid minute of tricks that didn’t even go towards his score. The crowd was on their feet and jaws on the ground!

As for Tampa Pro, after 20 years the intensity continues to rise and rise. Brian Schaefer and company, SkateShoesPH salutes you.

Here we have some brutal footage of security guards beating the shit out of 2 skaters at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Watch the actual footage below. Posted by Ghelo Bytes on Youtube.

Skating is not a crime!

These abusive guards are fucking retards...These guys just wanted to have a good time. Well...the damage has been done already. Really embarassing.... I really feel sorry for these guys. Message to the victims (Sam & Chris): Sue those bastards!!!

Designed specifically for Silas' style of skateboarding, this Silas Pro II Mid is all about cushioning and durability. It's a great all around skate shoe that's super comfy and boasts with an excellent design. The material used here could stand up to relentless street (or ramp) skating. If you're looking for a shoe with a cool, retro feel to skate or to hang out in, then these are the ones. TBA.

The adidas Skateboarding Stan Smith Vulc keeps it clean with a great new colorway in a slightly more conservative way. The Cinder canvas upper not only feels colorful but its textures bounces off of the screen thanks to its woven upper that's tipped in maroon suede.  It is one extremely wearable design and as such potentially a cornerstone of your everyday lineup this spring.  Click in to see some more angles, then cop a pair from shops like Flatspot.
